Welcome to Spectrum Naturist Club. This site tells you about our Club - where we meet, what we do and how to join. Whether you've been a naturist for years or are only just thinking about it, we hope you'll find something to interest you.

This picture of the pool was taken in March 2004, just days before the centre reopened after major refurbishment.

About Us

At Spectrum we try to create a friendly, relaxed atmosphere where families, couples and singles alike can come and enjoy a couple of hours of naturist swimming and socialising.

Anyone can be a naturist. Your background, age, shape, race, creed and colour are irrelevant when it comes to enjoying the freedom of naturism, which is why it attracts people from all walks of life.....and why Spectrum welcomes applications from all sections of the community.

We have around 150 members and on a typical swim night at this time of year we have 40-50 members attending.

We meet weekly on Saturdays at Northfield Pool and Fitness Centre on Bristol Road South, Northfield in Birmingham. Most sessions run from 18:30 to 20:30. Doors shut at 18:50. There is ample free car parking available. The car park entrance is off Great Stone Road.

Once a month we extend the session until 21:00 to give everyone extra time to relax and socialise - our "long nights". On these late nights we usually organise some themed food (see Calendar below).

Your first time? We understand that no matter how keen you are to experience naturism, the first time can still be quite daunting. Don't be afraid to tell us if you are apprehensive as we will do our best to put you at ease. On your first visit we would show you around and answer any questions you had. We are also happy to answer questions by email.

Ladies - yes, we will allow you to wear a costume on your first couple of visits if you really are unsure about the whole naturism thing. We think you'll be popping back to the changing room within a short time once you've realised how relaxed and unthreatening the naturist environment is. Gentlemen - in our experience you don't need much encouragement to get your kit off!

And to answer a couple of perennial questions; ladies by all means wear a bikini bottom during your period if you prefer. Don't feel you have to stay away that week. Chaps - it really isn't likely to happen but, if it does, a strategically placed towel will spare you any embarrassment.

Our Facilities

SWIMMING

Large pool for both serious swimming and just splashing about. 18:30 to 19:30 hours. Lifeguards on duty.

A chair hoist is available at the pool for people who may have difficulty getting in and out of the water. Please ask us about disabled access to other facilities.

Lockers are £1 returnable

SAUNA AND STEAM

Sauna and steam cabins. Sit, chat and sweat away the cares of the week. From 18:30 to 20:15.

The health suite also has a seating area where you can sit and chat, check out the latest news on the club notice board, browse through naturist magazines and holiday brochures and enjoy a cup of tea, coffee and biscuits.

GYMNASIUM

Cardiovascular and weight training equipment. In the interests of health and safety, suitable clothing and footwear must be worn and you must know how to use the equipment safely. We regret that children may not use the gym.

SOCIALS

Regular social events eg "Bring Food to Share", quizzes, holiday talks, fish & chip suppers, cheese and wine, Christmas party. These are held at the swim in the function room, usually from 20:00 until 21:00 on the second Saturday of the month.

SUN BEDS

Sun beds are available at extra cost (currently £3.50). Buy your token when paying at the door.

DINING CLUB

We also arrange regular meals out at local restaurants (not naturist!). These are very popular and usually attended by around 25-30 members.

Joining

Most naturist clubs operate a system of asking visitors to complete a number of trial visits before offering membership and Spectrum is no exception.

Before inviting people to visit we do ask that you complete and return an application form providing basic information about yourself, including a passport-sized photo. The form is sent by post, not email, so we will need your address. Once your completed form is received we will get in touch with you about visiting. You will be asked to complete 4 satisfactory visits within a 4 month period before being considered for membership. That gives you the opportunity to decide whether Spectrum is the club you are looking for.

You must be aged 18 or over to apply for membership. Children of members and visitors are welcome but must be accompanied by them.

Although applications for membership need to be approved by the elected committee, we try to keep everything informal. There are no membership interviews.

Once your membership is agreed, the membership fee becomes payable. Members who join part way through the year (annual fees are due on 1 March) pay a proportion of the annual fee.

Very occasionally we do have people who come along looking for something more than the straightforward naturism on offer at Spectrum. Not only will they be disappointed, they can also expect to be shown the door before they get the chance to complete their four visits!

Costs are:

Annual Membership - £10 per adult (all persons 18 and over)

Sessions - £3.00 members; £4.00 visitors

Under 18s - No session fee, no membership fee. Must be accompanied by parent or guardian.
